Starting the new year with a Naming Ceremony in Hampshire

Kicking off this new season in 2025 with a lovely naming ceremony!  Here's a blog from Jess. . .

"On a chilly but sunny February afternoon, I headed to Highfield Park, reading to hold a very special Baby Naming ceremony. This event wasn’t for just one special occasion but it also marked the first birthday of Gemma and Jesal’s son Jaxon.

I had been talking to the couple since September and initially, they were unsure of the route to go down as they wanted to celebrate their firstborn as they are both from different religious backgrounds. Gemma was from a Christian family and Jesal was from a Hindu family, they wanted to draw in both cultures to their ceremony.

It was important to them to recognise that although they both have their differences they also have their similarities, that being family is the heart of everything. To help recognise this, the couple chose to include a sand ceremony to symbolise everyone’s unique role in Jaxon’s upbringing. Whether it is to help drive and motivate his ambitions, calm his emotions, or support and listen to him when he is facing life’s hurdles.

As another nod to their religions, the couple chose to have 2 sets of godparents, 1 of the Christian faith and one of the Hindu faith. From these godparents, they had Jesal’s sister do a reading of which part was written about her promise to Jesal but also an extract from “Let no one steal your dreams” by Paul Cookson. Following which all the godparents were invited up to make their promises which were linked to family’s religions.

Once they had made these, another one of the godparents performed a song. Beforehand, he made a speech about the support he had seen from the family when he needed it and the amount of love for them as well as Jesal. He then sang and played the guitar for everyone, I can confirm that the room was filled with love and there were not many dry eyes in the room, it was beautiful.

After the ceremony had ended, the family was left to enjoy the rest of the celebrations with pizza and party games to celebrate the naming ceremony and, of course, Jaxon's 1st Birthday.

Wishing the whole family lots of love and much happiness.
