Many of my couples have chosen quite unique and quirky aisle decorations which I love to see. It is another way to add your personal stamp to the ceremony and is a way of tying this part of your wedding in with the style of the rest of your day. But whilst this is a lovely way to re-emphasise your theme, it need not become a huge expense or indeed feel like an obligation to dress the area in an elaborate way.
One thing to remember is that the best and most colourful way to embellish your ceremony location is of course your guests. They will come in all of their colourful finery, possibly with hats or head pieces too and will add the perfect finishing touch to your setting. So before you put too much pressure on yourself, bear this in mind, as only the empty room will properly showcase your detailed décor. Once guests come in, their presence becomes the focal point. . .until you arrive that is!
In rustic venues or outdoor settings, the surroundings will often provide a wonderful backdrop to your day, and subtle touches will enhance this in an elegant fashion without detracting from the landscape. If flamboyance, drama and atmosphere is your thing, look at colourful pin wheels, festoon lighting, or even swathes of voile material (think destination weddings with blue skies) strung above guests heads. This overhead style of décor adds another dimension to the look and feel, and leaves the actual aisle free and clear.
You may also want to think about decorative ways in which to direct your guests, such as a paper flower lined aisle. These can be positioned all the way along either side of your aisle, as a wonderful accompaniment to a garden or al fresco wedding. This ensures your guests move into their seat rows from the opposite end to the aisle, thus preserving any decorative petals placed on the aisle for example. Paper lanterns and modest floral displays hug on the end chairs are also lovely ways to adorn your aisle, and wont obstruct your entrance. Afterall, if you have a big dress, or are being accompanied by two people down the aisle (mum and dad for example), you will need plenty of room to all achieve a successful processional experience.
